When I started my blog in June 2016 I didn’t focus on Pinterest at all which I found out was a huge mistake. Every article I read about running a successful blog included marketing all your blog posts with pinnable images on Pinterest.
Pinterest IS a search engine comparable to Google. This means a lot more people may see your blog post and blog images through Pinterest compared to social media posts on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
Therefore, when I rebranded my blog in June 2017 I knew in order to maximize traffic and monetize my hard work Pinterest was a necessity. I also knew as a busy mom, freelance writer, blogger and worker outside of the home 15 hours a week I did not have the time nor patience to manually pin 100 times a day, 7 days a week.
Here steps in my Pinterest savior: Tailwind.
What is Tailwind?
Tailwind is an Official Pinterest Partner which is important. Here’s why:
- “Pinterest thoroughly vets their Partners’ products, reputation with customers and business practices prior to badging them as Partners.”
Tailwind’s mission is to make marketing easy for every brand around the world. Tailwind launched publicly in early 2015, and since then has accumulated 150,000 member brands.
I love using Tailwind to grow my blog and business for so many reasons, and I’ll explain them all below. The proof is in the images and the stats from my Pinterest page!
1. Tailwind helps increase monthly viewers and engagement
When I signed up for Tailwind on June 1, 2017, my Pinterest account had 4,000 monthly viewers. Yes, you’re reading the number right: 4,000.
Of course, I overhauled my old Pinterest account, created new boards, wrote better board descriptions, and wrote a better bio, but those alone would not increase my monthly viewers to what you see below. I owe it all to Tailwind.
On October 27, 2017, less than 5 months of using Tailwind, I’m getting 70,000 monthly viewers to my Pinterest account. 70,000! For those of you who like math that’s 1,750% growth.
If you’re a blogger or freelance writer, then you need to know the better Pinterest following, viewing, engagement, etc. you get then the more eyes that will be on your writing. This is why Pinterest is such a great sharing platform for bloggers and writers.
If you’re new to hearing about Tailwind, let me show you a couple of the amazing features to this app.
2. Tailwind allows you to “Set It and Forget It”
First off Tailwind creates a “smart schedule” for you which automatically accounts for the most popular times your pins are seen on Pinterest. You can easily add or delete time slots in order to pin as much as you’d like.
These time slots are when your pins will be posted, so it allows you to post at the best times, even if that means 2 a.m. on a Monday.
This scheduler freed up so much of my time I was wasting with manually pinning, so I get to use my time more wisely to build my business. I spend only 2 hours a week scheduling pins a week in advance. Much better than struggling to use valuable free time every evening when little one slept to pin.
Below is what your Tailwind feed looks like. You can easily see your scheduled pins, and there’s a “Shuffle Queue” button in the top right corner. This is useful when you’re scheduling a lot of pins to one board.
For example, if you scheduled 15 pins to one board you don’t want all of those pins to be published right after another. The “Shuffle Queue” button allows your pins to shuffle into different time slots. All pins will be evenly published across your boards you’ve scheduled pins to.
3. Tailwind Tribes helps achieve higher views with pins and blog posts
Tailwind also began Tailwind Tribes about a year ago. Tailwind Tribes are different from Pinterest Group Boards, because the Tribes allow for admins to better see who is posting what. Also, Tribes are good for specific niches. So far I’m a part of 5 Tribes, but I should be active in much more to increase my pin views and repins.
Below are the pins I added to one Tailwind Tribe. The top right corner shows the statistic of the pin which is helpful when you want to know where your pin is being shared.
Below is an example of one Tailwind Tribe I’m a part of. I’ve only contributed 7 pins to this tribe and as of October 27, 2017 those 7 pins have reached 715, 800 people thanks to repins and re-shares. I would have never been able to reach those many people without Tailwind Tribes.
4. Tailwind provides bomb statistics to improve and adjust Pinterest marketing
I knew zilch about Pinterest marketing. Of course, there are some amazing courses and ebooks to learn about Pinterest traffic. However, I’ve learned mostly from fellow bloggers and through analyzing my Tailwind Pinterest traffic statistics.
Tailwind works wonders for me on the marketing end of things.
You can view individual board statistics including number of repins, virality score and engagement score within a certain time period.
You can also view your profile performance including followers, pins, and repins in a certain time period. In the past 7 days all areas have steadily increased thanks to scheduling pins through Tailwind.
5. Tailwind is a cost-effective investment in order to monetize your blog and hard work
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if you want to monetize you need to think of your blog like any other physical business. That means investing in your blog like a physical business. In the grand scheme of monetizing your blog/website the cost of Tailwind is 100% worth it.
I signed up for the Plus option Tailwind offers, which ends up breaking down to just $9.99 a month ($119 paid annually). This membership includes unlimited pin scheduling, smart scheduling, the profile and board statistics I discussed, and more.
Tailwind also offers an awesome free trial if you’d like to try before you buy. There’s no time limit with the free trial. You can schedule up to 100 pins on Pinterest before deciding if you want to pay. Trust me, you’ll want to buy afterwards.
